Mental
Arithmetic
GMAS A
Global Organisation:
GMAS, a pioneer organization in ABACUS Education in India,
is an internationally well-known powerful Brain Development
Program, which will effectively activate children's latent
mental power and develop Mental & Creative Skills and
Photographic Memory resulting in Self-reliance and
Self-confidence. Abacus is a lifetime skill, which
will remain with the child forever. The program develops the
child’s mathematical and logical powers to such an extent
that the child after completion of this course will be able
to do any Arithmetic calculations mentally without the help
of a calculator.
GMAS uses Chinese ancient tool - ABACUS for the Right Brain
Development, (the seat of intelligence) contributing in a
large measure to increase your child’s Speed and Accuracy,
Learning ability, Concentration, Perceptual capability,
Memory & Listening skills; which automatically results in
students better performance in all academic subjects.
Why GMAS?
As you will agree with me that Abacus Education is a need of
every child but affordability in India is a main hindrance
in reaching this program to the targeted children. We at
GMAS feels that Education is not meant only for rich
children but it has to reach masses. In order to make Abacus
Education to reach every niche and corner of India we offer
a quality Abacus Education at very reasonable price so that
affordability should not come in picture. GMAS conduct
National Level Competition every year, which facilitates the
students to compete at respective levels. GMAS provides well
researched, updated and excellent course material to their
students. GMAS provides internationally accepted, self
designed & certified training to their course instructors to
make them competent for conducting classes.
Basic Idea About Abacus Education
A boon to parents and teachers, a simple technique taught in
early childhood, the abacus method originated in China.
It is more than a 2000 years old art and skill. This ancient
art has survived the onslaught of time, because it is a
proven technique for the brain development. Abacus, the word
is not an uncommon word now a day. It is now accepted and
practiced in several countries China-principally, Japan,
Korea, Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore, India, Brunei,
Australia, New Zealand, Canada, U.K., and other countries in
the Middle East. This helps children far better in all areas
where learning is required.
Targeted Segment of Students
• Children in the age group of 6-14 years
• Children who can count numbers from 0-9
• Children with plentiful imagination
• Children who fear mathematics
• Children who lack self-confidence
• Children who would like to improve academically
Benefit To Students
The whole brain development program (particularly right
brain) of GMAS–India will result in boosting up memory
levels of children, increased their speed and accuracy
levels in arithmetical calculations, enhanced intelligence
quotient (IQ) and has sharpened concentration and
comprehension skills. Because of these skills, photographic
memory – an important lifetime skill – is developed. Our
step-by-step teaching methodology, guidance and focus on
listening and observation skills of students, as well. This
enables an average child to comprehend and absorb quickly.
Our unique approach has also increased their learning
abilities at school – writing skills, logical thinking, and
plotting locations on a map – all of which significantly
contributes towards and all-round academic proficiency. Our
training approach has resulted in reducing carelessness too,
which is quite common among many children. This gives them
self-confidence to compete in major competitions, as they
grow older.
Mental Arithmetic by image of Abacus
The practice proves that it is good to train children’s
observation ability and attention ability. Working with
abacus demands the coordinated work of hands, eyes and
brain. Series of activities such as visualization, memory,
concentration, analysis, judgment and control in the brain
go hand in hand to do the mental calculation with speed and
accuracy.
The teaching of mental arithmetic by image of Abacus breaks
through single teaching method of maths, adopts flexible
teaching methods to stimulate children’s interests, and
strengthens their desire for seeking knowledge.
The practice of Abacus makes their eyes move frequently. So
it is good for muscle of eyeball to regulate rhythmically.
In this way, it can help to exercise the muscle of cilia
eyeball and lens eyeball, and at the same time it can also
quicken the blood cycle of eye, improve organism nourishment
and strengthen adjusting function. It can improve stability
of the eyesight as time passes.
5-14 Best Learning Age
5-14
years of age is the best age group for children’s learning.
The development and growth of the nerve tissues begin in 4-6
years old at a rapid. The progress slows down when they
reach 12 years of age and the growth reaches 75%.The
greatest growth of human brain is during 4-14 years.
Therefore it is the best to start at around 6 years of age
to utilise the system in the best possible way. Scientific
researches revels that a very small percentage of people use
their right brain and those who use it, are bound to reach
on top. In order to create the overall intelligence of the
cerebrum, both the right & left brain must be trained at the
same time. The creativity will be at its best only when both
brains communicate & co-ordinate with each other. The
creativity function from right brain needs to be boosted by
the information stored in left brain. Whereas, the
mathematical and physical abilities have to work together
with the space perception from the right brain in order to
become an excellent scientist, engineer, designer, literary
expert & businessman as well like Einstein, Picasso,
Shakespeare or other computer geniuses.
Developing Human Intelligence
For the brain to function optimally we should pay attention
to cultivating and improving the growth of the brain;
develop and make good use of its whole function, the
function of brain must be cultivated in a planned way,
beginning at the formative age of the child. This is found
at GMAS.Not only does the function of the human brain need
cultivating from childhood, but developing and making use of
it constantly all through his life. There is no limit to the
potentialities of the human brain. Professor Fay Neil man,
the inventor of computer and Hungarian mathematician said
that the human brain contains 15,000,000,000 cells, which
can store the information of one quadrillion, equal to
nearly 10000 times as many as 1,500,000 volumes in the
national library of America.
A lot of physiological organs of human body are divided in
to right and left parts, some of them appear symmetric on
the surface, but the functions are not symmetric at all. For
instance, the right and left hands are different in strength
and skill, so is the visual sensitiveness of the right and
left eyes. For the same reason, the function of the right
and left hemispheres of the brain is not symmetric either.
The different cognitive forms of the two hemispheres are
mutually complementary and co-operative and develop
harmoniously, making up the whole function of the human
brain.
To begin within GMAS, the action of driving beads with two
hands simultaneously promotes the development of the whole
function of the brain. Driving beads by two hands is the
latest technology in mental arithmetic by image of Abacus.
This is implemented only in GMAS program right from the
first class. Driving beads mutually by right and left hands
enables man’s vision, sense of hearing, sense of touch and
all muscles to act in concert and harmony. Thus the right
and left hemispheres of the brain are simultaneously used
and control the action of the hands together. The action of
the right hand has developed the calculating and logical
thinking function of the left brain, and the action of left
hand has developed the imaginary and creative function of
the brain. Since the right and left hemispheres of the brain
transmit messages to each other, the action of the two hands
is well co-ordinated and the function of the brain is
developed.
Awards
To motivate the children GMAS provides an official awards at
each level, which shows the child’s strength & area of
improvement.
Talent
education begins in young Kids
Abacus based working of arithmetic functions enable
development of lifetime skills, which form a solid academic
foundation for children. Global Mental Arithmetic is an
internationally well known, powerful Mental Development
program. Our successful step by step guidance and
motivational teaching method will effectively activate
children’s latent mental power and develop them utmost in
Analytical, skills, creativity Observation and Photographic
Memory. Children become self reliant & self-confident.
More than arithmetic
Many people often assume that learning mental arithmetic is
merely a method to improve the speed and accuracy of
calculations, for example, adding 10-digit numbers within a
few seconds. By itself, it is already an amazing
accomplishment for most young children. However, there is
more to this because when the children are learning Global
Mental Arithmetic, they are actually also undergoing the
process developing other aspects of the mind. When the
children have acquired an astonishing calculation speed, it
is actually only the end result of having developed the
following mental abilities: concentration, observation,
visualization & imagination, and memory.
GMAS Enhances
-
Concentration
Concentration is the directed attention towards a
particular matter with clear reflection that creates a
deep image and mental impression. An enhanced
concentration leads to better absorption power. Studying
will then be a joyful thing for these children. In the
abacus and mental arithmetic education children will be
trained to concentrate while listening to the teacher’s
questions (that ranges from easy to difficult) and then
focus on calculating the answers as accurately as
possible.
-
Observation
Observation is the ability to compare and analyze and
differentiate objects, motives and steps. It is also a
state of alertness and swiftness of the mind and senses.
This comes from the need to understand the theoretical
requirements of each calculation and at the same time be
aware of the time, and promptings from the teachers.
-
Visualization and Imagination
By using the imagination of the right brain to visualize
the abacus in mind, inevitably the powers of
visualization would become sharp and clear. Albert
Einstein believes that the imagination is important than
knowledge, because imagination is the main source of
yet-to-be-discovered knowledge.
-
Memory
Memory is the ability to store and retrieve information
and experiences. It has been found that memory in the
left brain would not stay long, but an image that is
recorded in the right brain would stay on in the mind
forever. By stimulating the right brain with mental
arithmetic, and in combination with the alertness of the
eyes, ears and hands, the ability to store and recall is
developed together.
Therefore, the ability to solve 10-digits arithmetic
problems in only a few seconds is only a small success
in comparison to the actual mental training that has
been done in order to achieve the skill to perform rapid
calculations.
-
Listen Skills
Constant practice of calculating sums dictated by the
course instructor to acquire speed and accuracy in
calculation sharpens the listening skills in students.
-
GMAS
also enhances Comprehension, Creativity Self Reliance
and Self Confidence in the students.
Course
Structure, Grading, Examination
The lessons are structured level-wise i.e. each level
consisting of a 3-month period. The child has to attend one
class for duration of 2-hours every week. At the end of each
level, a test will be administered and based on its success
the child qualifies for the next level. In all, the course
is spread in 8 level covering 24 months.
Annually grading examinations are conducted to assess speed
and accuracy levels in Children. This helps them to compete
internationally. Once a year, a National Competition is
being organized for all GMAS –India children which brings
the entire GMAS family under one roof.
